The return to closer to "normal" winter weather has brought snow, rain and ice to the Pocono Lake Region this winter. This is good news for local farmers, lake and reservoir levels, and your lawn!
While the precipitation is welcome, it is it has not been enough to bring moisture levels up to alleviate the drought conditions across the Pocono Mountains and Pocono Lake Region.
Approximately 50% of Apple Creek's service area remains in D0 Abnormally Dry or D1 Moderate Drought conditions according to the US Drought Monitor Mitigation Center.
Please be aware of local conditions before you do any outdoor burning and always call in any controlled burning to your local Communication Center.
The number for Wayne County Emergency Communications Center is 570-253-3109.

Drought conditions are creeping into our service area. Landscaping plants, fruit trees and lawns continue to need supplemental water if you are in Greentown, Blooming Grove or generally south of Lake Wallenpaupack.
Our Pocono Lake Region Drought Monitor page is provided as a way for clients to do a quick check of general conditions. It will be updated occasionally.
To check the most current drought monitor maps for the US, Puerto Rico and territories go to the University of Nebraska site.
